In Their Cart takes you behind the scenes of the coolest people’s shopping carts. Giving you an inside look at what they’re loving, buying, or dreaming of buying. For our second issue, we’re taking an inside look at Emma Cogan’s cart.
Emma Cogan is a multi-media stylist, director, and bootleg fashion psychologist; bicoastly based in Portland and NYC. Described as “what would happen if Rookie Mag and It by Alexa Chung had a baby who shopped at SSENSE,” her Substack publication, DIGITAL FRUITS, explores the intersection of fashion, culture, messy wellness, & the creative self.
When she’s not downing a rose matcha and feverishly writing a newsletter, you’ll likely find her making up cookie recipes, moodboarding a project deck, hosting a weird-meets-chic event, or writing the script for her upcoming film shooting in NYC later this year.
You can find her on Instagram, TikTok, and- if you’re ready to psychoanalyze your closet- here on Substack.
Now, let’s dive into Emma’s cart…
The Glacé Apron - Semaine x Paris Starn
Paris Starn has been making food fashionable for years, and her Substack Playing With Food got me back into baking and recipe developing as a hobby (because, IMO, we NEED creative hobbies outside of our creative professions)-- I’m particularly addicted to her mac and cheese recipe and meringue sablés. Anyways, I love Semaine too! Such an incredibly interesting and chic inspiration resource. This collaboration is a match made in heaven, and basically, it’s my dream apron.Inger Pants - Nicklas Skovgaard
Easily my favorite up-and-coming designer at the moment. Nicklas Skovgaard tows the sweet, sweet line between art, retrofuturism, couture, juxtaposition, and wearability. Okay, maybe that is multiple lines. But anyways! These pants are a perfect take on updating a classic silhouette, adding interest to a wardrobe staple.Hawthorne Leather Scrunchie - Merrma
One thing about me is I love a ridiculously massive and/or strange scrunchie. This meets both requirements.Happy Hardcore Eau De Parfum - Binaurale
A series that has become accidentally recurring on DIGITAL FRUITS is my monthly perfume podcast– where I review the chic, the strange, and the downright grotesque fragrances I’ve sampled that month. My full-bottle wishlist is slim, as most 1ml samples I order from Luckyscent or the like end up in the “just okay” category. But this remains at the top of said list (and lands somewhere between strange and chic). Inspired by ‘90s raves, this fruity, unique, leather is genuinely unlike anything I’ve smelled before (except maybe... a mall shoe department? But in a good way?). It also has a note I’ve never seen before– guava jelly. So yummy. Dying to sniff their latest launch, Matchbox Romance, too.Fancy Cake Candle - Gohar World
If it’s not already, Gohar World should be your go(har)-to for all things dinnerwares, hostess gifts, et cetera. I love a little candle, and trust me, this is one of MANY stunning, surreal candles they’ve designed. I think this has to be my favorite right now though. I’m also particularly fond of their clear obsession with both swans and beans. So many products related to both. But that’s a different story.
So, I hate driving! I’m actually horrified at the idea! But I love a walk. Except the ones where I’m hauling way too many groceries in a little tote bag. It’s come to my, and my back’s, attention that I need a Hulken- expeditiously- to haul around my potatoes, eggs, and IKEA bags worth of clothes when I’m headed to set.
Metal Lip Balm in Burnt Coral - Isamaya
I’ve been dying to try Isamaya’s makeup line FOREVER. Talk about stunning brand concept from start to finish. Just a few weeks ago, she launched her rebranded core line-including these insane metallic lip balms. I am particularly hungry for the Burnt Coral shade. This with a little MAC Stone would be unprecedented levels of cuntology on the diva meter.
SSENSE Exclusive Brown Faux Leather Aviator Hat - Anna Sui
I don’t know... I’m trying this new thing where I am a hat girl. This is a new world to me. But I have been loving it and I’m salivating for this Anna Sui x SSENSE hat. It looks SO cozy and safe.
Cowgirl Mules - Western Affair
I do in fact have a little cowgirl in me (re: the Patsy Cline shrine in my entryway). These are killer. The Calming Scalp Serum - Crown Affair
Listen, mommy has an angry scalp. I CANNOT figure it out. My allergist thinks it’s just chronic hives, but I can tell when I’m not using the right products. Anyways, TMI. But what I do know is hydration helps a LOT. And I’ve been dying to try Crown Affair (shoutout to Crown Affair’s founder Dianna Cohen who also has a fabulous Substack).
love this idea. so sick.
Ouuu I would love to do one of these with you!!
